cashmere knitting yarn! There are several companies who supply cashmere, mostly in China, but I have been really disappointed with the samples that they have sent and it goes without saying – cashmere, even from Chinese wholesalers, is not cheap, and there is no point in buying it if isn’t as good as it can be.
However, my newest source actually came to me via a loyal and valued customer of mine (you know who you are!) and it is from an Italian comapny that supplies to many designers and high-end fashion labels – supplying yarn for hand knitting is definitely a sideline for them and they dont even have a brand for it, so it will be branded Luxury Yarns. Most exciting of all is that they are able to supply aran and chunky weight yarns as well as DK and 4ply. There are a handfull of other companies in the UK selling cashmere knitting yarn, but I am pretty sure that they only sell DK and 4ply, but with Winter approaching and Christmas not far behind, I am hopeful that hand-made cashmere scarves, cowls and other accessories may be on a few of my customer’s gift lists…
Anyway, the deal isn’t yet done, but I am hoping to be able to add it to my product list very soon. I think will start small and probably only sell one or two weights, and only in black, cream, and grey to begin with – just to see how it goes. But I am hopeful and I have a couple of patterns that I made up last year for snoods so I may sell them as sets.
