Friday – arrived mid afternoon in swealtering heat to find an empty 2mx2m space in the marquee with my name on it. I spent the next 2 hours unloading the van and became SO hot that I thought I would pass out! I was meant to be right next to an entrance/exit, but there didn’t appear to be a gap in the marquee and when peeping through all I could see was a fence – there went my dreams of grabbing people’s attention as the first stall in the marquee.
Oh well, I quickly set to work and Katie arrived shortly after – with some sheets to hang and some brilliant ideas. It took us about 3 hours but by the time we finished I was very happy, and also completely exhausted. We covered up my wares and left, praying that it would all still be there the next morning…
Saturday – after a fitfull night tossing and turning and dreaming of weird markets and selling strange things, I headed over to Ampthill. The marquee was busy with the remaining stall holders quickly assembling their stands – (note to self – if I plan out my stall better next time I can probably start early rather than taking a whole day before…).
We put the finishing touches together (Katie brought a lovely bunch of flowers) and people started to filter through at around 10.30. We had moments were we were so busy that there were 2 or 3 people waiting to pay, and then we’d have a lull where we could both relax and stick our heads through the gap to cool off. Deciding to take credit cards was probably a good move although it did add time to the whole process as I had to write down loads of information (which I kept forgetting!) and a few people got fed up of waiting, but in general we had a great morning. The afternoon was much slower, but all in all we had a good day. I’m off to bed now as I’m exhausted and want to get as much sleep as possible before day 2…
