Following a cartoon in this week’s private eye, I decided to make up a pattern for an iPhone cover. It uses less than one ball of dk wool and will fit all models of iPhone (I have made it slightly longer to fit the new iPhone 5 too)  I think I am going to write one for the iPad too, but have too many other presents to make at the moment so it is further down my todo list. Anyway, this is how it turned out:

Materials

x 50g DK yarn (image used is Amalfi by Debbie Bliss)
1 pair 4mm needles
1 cable needle
1 x 10mm button
1 darning needle

 

Knit abbreviations:

St(s) Stitch(es)
st st stocking stitch
K Knit
P Purl
K2tog Knit 2 together
RS Right side
WS Wrong side
C4F (cable 4 forward) slip next 2 stitches onto cable needle, and hold at front of work. knit next 2 stitches from left hand needle, then knit stitches from cable needle.
rep Repeat
yo yarn over (as if about to purl next stitch)

 

Instructions:

Cast on 33 stitches
Row 1 (RS) k3, *p1, k4, p1, k4, p1*, k5, rep * to * k3
Row 2 (WS) p3, *k1, p4, k1, p4, k1* p5 rep * to * p3
Row 3 k3, *p1, C4F, p1, C4F, p1* k5, rep * to * k3
Row 4 (as r2) p3, *k1, p4, k1, p4, k1* p5 rep * to * p3
Row 5 (as r1) k3, *p1, k4, p1, k4, p1*, k5, rep * to * k3
Row 6 (as r2) p3, *k1, p4, k1, p4, k1* p5 rep * to * p3
Repeat these 6 rows 5 times, then repeat rows 1-4 once more.

Sew up bottom seam and then up the side. Add button between the 2 cables, to line up with button hole.
