market in London on 7 December… So, because people will be Christmas shopping, rather than my usual selection of yarns I have decided to focus on kits as they make perfect gifts, and in particular my cashmere cowls. Everyone loves cashmere, but knitting a cashmere scarf seems extravagant, perhaps even wasteful as the only bit that really matters is the bit that goes round your neck, and the rest of the length is almost a waste of this precious yarn. As such, cowls and cashmere are made to go together! These are great to make and give as a gift, or make the perfect present for that special ‘knitter’ you know…
The latest addition to my collection of cashmere kits is Altopiano Striped Cowl. Modelled here by our gorgeous neighbour, this would make the perfect Christmas gift and it’s actually not too complicated, and is a good introduction to circular knitting. It uses 2 x 50g balls of Altopiano yarn, with the main colour being either Cobalt, Moss or Charcoal, and cream as a contrasting colour. The kit comes with a Knit Pro 5.5mm x 60cm circular needle and original pattern.
Then for those who know someone who is expecting, my Di Lusso Newborn baby jumper kit is the perfect gift (I know because I made this for a friend recently and she loved it). The pattern itself is very simple, however the stripes are not quite so easy, and I would advise a novice knitter to either select one or perhaps 2 colours, as having 4 balls on the needle leads to unnecessary tangles (especially with the help of my todder and puppy!). Anyway, this kit contains 4 x 25g balls of Di Lusso pure cashmere and a 3.75mm Knit Pro Nova circular or straight needle. It is not knitted in the round but personally I now knit everything on circular needles as they are so much more portable as they fold up and fit in your handbag.
