Is no secret that I love Love Note by TinCanKnits. It’s also no surprise that I am not alone… at the time of writing more than 6500 projects have been listed in Ravelry alone… I have now made three, all pretty different, but I love each of them so much and have not ruled out making a fourth. The first one I made (pictured left) using Mulberino Yak and Cloud Lace in Teal. I made it slightly longer than the pattern because I am 5’9″ tall so wanted to make sure it came to my trousers. The only change I made to the pattern was an icord neckline which I actually loved so much I used it on all of them…

For the pinkish one pictured above I used Mulberino 4ply Daydream Believer held double with Cloud in Grey. Annoyingly I made this one too long and ended up having to frog it which resulted in quite a lot of wastage because unwinding mohair is tricky, so I used a flouro pink mini for the neck and hem as I didn’t want to start a third skein.  Anyway, I love it and have worn it almost consistently since finishing it a couple of weeks ago…

The latest one is made using my newest yarn – Luminous DK – a pure silk blend that is softer than you can imagine. I received a small sample of this yarn my manufacturer back in September last year but didn’t get around to properly testing it until January. Well, once I did I fell in LOVE and knew exactly what I wanted to make with it to properly test it. I was surprised at its strength, because in my experience, single ply yarns tend to break when pulled, but this didn’t which means that although it will pill (any single ply yarn does), it will last. So with that I dyed a small batch of sky blue – not an obvious choice for me, but I will explain…

Two years ago (before the world went mad) I had my colours done by a wonderful friend who is a colour therapist with House Of Colour. I’m not sure if you’ve ever done anything like this before it was 3 hours of me time that I so rarely have and I loved it so much. You arrive wearing no makeup (which for me is no challenge as I don’t often wear makeup anyway), your hair tied back and covered (because mine is dyed but if it’s a natural colour then you don’t need to do this bit) and then sit in front of a mirror while someone tries hundreds of different scarves against your skin. House of colour works on the theory that there are 4 colour types – Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn, with Spring and Autumn being warm golden shades and Winter and Summer being colder Silver shades. I would have put money on me being an autumn, but it turns out that I am Summer. Anyway, on further analysis my “Wow” colour was defined as being a pale sky/powder blue. This is not a colour that I necessarily would have associated with me, but I trust my friend Jane and when she showed me how it looked on me I was really surprised… So, I decided to use this trial batch of Luminous and make myself a Love Note…

I can not tell you how much I love the finished jumper. It’s almost April – my favourite time of year (and also my birthday) so I decided I would want to wear this as a Spring/Summer jumper and therefore it should have short sleeves. It just feels like that sort of thing… So, anyway here is the finished result. I LOVE it.

If you want to make one of these jumpers I have yarn packs available, or can dye them to order. Or you could be adventurous and try a short sleeved version in Luminous DK… I feel like this yarn is so perfect for this pattern…
