Erba DK is a new hand dyed semi-solid “eco” yarn made from 70% merino and 30% hemp. Hemp fibre has been used extensively throughout history, and is widely considered to be environmentally friendly due to it’s low impact production. Also, because it’s a plant fibre it does not react to protein dyes and as such creates an interesting tweed effect.
This yarn is not as soft as many of my other yarns, but it’s very economical and comes in 8 vibrant colours. I have dyed them in small batches and while I will endeavour to keep the photos up to date, the item received may differ slightly from the image shown.
Primarily available as 50g skeins, although there are a few 100g skeins.
Due to the process of hand-dyeing yarn, some residual dye may remain. This is perfectly normal and mostly effects blues and red dyes due to their manufacturing process. We do however suggest washing all garments before they are worn to prevent colour transference. In the case of particularly bright colours, soaking the finished item in a salt and vinegar solution will help fix colours prior to washing. For more information you can see our blog post.
