Platinum Sock Yarn is perfect yarn for socks. It’s soft and very strong, made from 75% Superwash Merino and 25% nylon which gives it extra strength for heels and toes. (If you want many of these colours are available in Pure Merino which is almost identical but 100% merino) I have dyed this yarn in a several ways – as a gradient yarns with speckles, semi-solid with speckles, and a variety of two-tone ombre yarns. For more ideas how these yarns will knit have a look at the sock kit which are available with a special 25cm circular sock needles or a set of 5dpn’s, and a printed copy of Simply The Simplest Sock pattern.
Most of these yarns are named after tracks by one of my all time hero’s David Bowie, but there are a few exceptions… As with all my yarns, if you don’t see the colour/colourway you want then I can create a custom dye at no extra cost. Please see Bespoke Yarn and choose the Platinum Sock option.
A few things to bear in mind about hand dyed yarn:
- No two skeins are ever the same, even if they have been dyed in the same pot. If consistency is important and/or to prevent colour pooling I strongly recommend you knit with two skeins and alternate every other row, particularly on larger projects. If you are just using 1 skein you could knit from both ends.
- Whilst every effort has been taken to ensure colour-fastness, there is a chance that some residual dye may remain (this is normal – think jeans…) I suggest hand washing all garments in cool water prior to being worn and keep bright colours separate.
- It is not possible to work directly from a skein/hank. It must be wound into a ball before use, or will get into a terrible tangle. For more information on how to do this there are hundreds of videos on YouTube. Alternatively for a small fee I can do it for you here.
