Queen Silk Lace
£18.00 – £22.00
Pure silk lace 3ply yarn in a variety of colours dyed by me. This yarn is perfect for Summer shawls and other lightweight projects, and at 500g/100m one skein is often enough.
Pure mulberry silk lace weight yarn.
Made from mulberry silk, this pure silk 3ply knitting yarn is fine and delicate with a beautiful sheen and drape. Queen Silk Lace has been hand-dyed in a variety of colour mixes and solid colours exclusive to Luxury Yarns. It can be used for a multitude of projects and at 500m per skein, one is usually enough for most projects.
This yarn is extremely popular and no two dye lots are ever the same. I try to keep the images on the site current, but your order may differ slightly from the images shown.
I dye all of these colours regularly, but if the colour you want is showing as out of stock, or you want a larger quantity you can order it here and I will dye it for you at no extra cost. There is a minimum of 2 skeins per colourway. Alternatively you can join the waitlist to receive an email when it’s back in stock.
A few things to bear in mind when using hand dyed yarn:
- No two skeins are ever the same, even if they have been dyed in the same pot. If consistency is important and/or to prevent colour pooling I strongly recommend you knit with two skeins and alternate every other row, particularly on larger projects. If you only have one skein, then you can use both ends at once.
- Whilst every effort has been taken to ensure colour-fastness, there is a chance that some residual dye may remain (this is normal - think jeans...) I suggest hand washing all garments in cool water prior to being worn and keep bright colours separate. I also advise against soaking your finished item as the colours can bleed.
- It is not possible to work directly from a skein/hank. It must be wound into a ball before use, or will get into a terrible tangle. For more information on how to do this there are hundreds of videos on YouTube. Alternatively for a small fee I can do it for you here.

Stunning yarn, Abby had to dye a lot for my order and sent me pictures to check I was happy with the way the dye lot had come out. It is amazingly beautiful, I am so pleased with it and can’t wait to start knitting with it. The pictures do not do the colours justice.

I am fairly new to crochet and was worried about using silk but I didn’t need to – I found it easier than wool – it is so nice to work with and the colours are so vibrant. I have made a shawl and everyone comments on it when I wear it. I have several people asking me to make one for them now!
Laura –
I have just finished my shawl and I am so so happy with it. The colours are really vibrant and it was such a pleasure to knit with. I will definitely be ordering this yarn again. Thank you.
John –
Dear Abby,
The yarn is super to knit. It does not overtwist – sometimes a problem, and it doesn’t split. Silk doesn’t have “memory” like wool, but neither does it felt, so dropped stitches are easy to pick up, and it slides along the needles easily. In the skein there were a couple of knots, which I untied as we were winding it into balls, so I am confident to start each row without fear of finding a join half way through – so far this is just the one piece – no joins, no trailing ends except the cast on tail. Each section of the skein is wound on to two pieces of kitchen towel as you can see in the pic, but it did take an hour-and-a-half for the two of us. Silk is not hygroscopic, so it does not pick up the dirt while I am working, and I am managing a row in about 5 minutes. I love the relief created in the texture which should remain, even when the work is blocked. All-in-all fanstastic. If anyone else asks you, tell them from me!
Best wishes, John

Beautiful yarn, beautiful packaging. Love it!
Juna –
I deliberated for a while before buying this yarn, but now I dont know why I waited and just want to buy more and more. It is completely delicious. The colours even better in the ‘flesh’ and it has a beautiful sheen and drape. It was a joy to knit with and the finished shawl is the envy of all my friends. I can’t wait to make another one. Now which colour should I have this time…
